What Is PTA

What is PTA?

PTA stands for:

Parent
Teacher
Association

Founded in 1897, PTA believes that the education of children is a shared responsibility of the home and the school. PTA works to benefit children and to support parents.

The objectives of PTA are as follows (from the Florida PTA Handbook):

To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship.
To raise the standards of home life.
To secure the adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.

PTA's Mission

The mission of the PTA is three-fold:

To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in our schools, in the community, and before governmental agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children
To assist parents in developing the skills they need to rear and protect their children, and
To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

Hollywood Hills has been a 5 star school for so long due in part to outstanding parent participation. Joining the PTA is a great way to help ensure another 5 star rating. Membership is only $5 per person. Moms and Dads should join. Grandparents and guardians are encouraged to do the same. It's a way to demonstrate your support for and pride in Hollywood Hills Elementary. Members have no obligation to volunteer any time.

When you join a local PTA, you also become a member of your county PTA, your state PTA, and the National PTA - all working together to ensure that every child has an opportunity to learn and be successful in school and in life.
