Box Top - General Mills Box Tops for Education

Welcome to General Mills Box Tops for Education, one of the easiest ways to earn cash for our school.

There's 3 ways to earn cash:

            1.  Registering @ the box tops website www.boxtops4education.com , (50 cents for each new member)
            2. Shopping at their marketplace which includes stores like JC Penney's, Walmart and Oriental Trading
(earn 4% or more cash back) to name a few.
            3. By clipping box tops on hundreds of products. Remember to clip the box tops before they hit the trash,
they are worth 10 cent cash!

I've introduced collection sheets which are a fun way to collect box tops. I can split the collected sheets in half. The top goes to General Mills and the bottom with the student's names are used for a raffle to win prizes. Box Tops is a win, win program for our school.

                                                                  Connecting for Kids

Connecting for Kids is a program that joins organizations in the community with the school in order to foster good community relationships, help children at the school, and facilitate joint involvement in community service projects. Partners of the school donate $250 each; the funds go into a special scholarship fund to help underprivileged children with such needs. These funds go towards purchasing and restocking school supplies, purchasing musical instruments or class shirts and field trip expenses that some families are unable to afford.  It also ensures that every child can receive a hot lunch every day, if they forget their lunch, run out of money on their account, or for any reason, did not have lunch that day.  In return, the school will spend one month with each partner during the school year on a community service project of their choice.                                       Fall Fundraising

Fundraising is the method of raising money to finance PTA programs and projects. The fundraising project must support the goals of  the school and PTA. When planning the years activities, PTAs should use the 3-to-1 rule. For every one fundraising activity, there should be at least three non fundraising programs aimed at helping parents or children or advocating for school improvements.

This fall,  Hollywood  Hills Elementary PTA is sponsoring the 2008 "Home for the Holidays"  EPI Fundraising Program. Sale and incentive details will be sent home with your child. The fall sale will run from Friday, Aug. 22nd to Monday, Sept. 11th, 2008. Also new this winter,  for the first time, we will host a Holiday Gift Shop - open to the children for one week in December.   We all agree on one thing, our children are the most important people in our community, and with PTA added funds, we will be able to continue providing the extra programs that enrich our educational environment.  To learn more about our Fundraiser program click here.

                                                                         PTA Membership

Becoming a PTA member opens up leadership opportunities, and builds skills in communication and advocacy strategies. Members who are willing to get involved are a valuable resource for starting and maintaining programs and projects to benefit children, youth, and the community.  Enrolling members in the PTA is a year-long activity that is carried out by a membership committee. The primary reason for developing membership in the PTA is to build an informed team of individuals to work on behalf of all children and youth. The committee plans, implements, and evaluates the membership campaign following the guidelines of the National PTA and Florida State PTA. To learn more about our PTA membership program click here.

                                      Room Parent

Room parent is someone ( mom, Dad or grandparent) who volunteers to assist the teacher. The extent of parental involvement varies from teacher to teacher, so one year you may be very involved, and the next you may find yourself with less work to do.
  • The primary purpose of a room parent is to host the classroom parties.
  • Help with Field Day activities
  • Walk with class during the Healthy Walk
  • Some teachers also rely on parent helpers to assist with field trips.

Classroom parties take place during the school day. They are usually one hour in length, and involve games, crafts, snacks, and favors. Each class has its own party, and all the activities should be age appropriate. The parents are the "hosts" of the party, although the teacher will always attend the party. The 3 big parties are Fall ( Halloween) Winter Holiday, End of year Celebration.  Every teacher has different expectations. Some teachers will give you a party plan, laying out all the details for you to execute. Others will await the party as anxiously as the children to see what fun you have prepared for them!
