One day every school year, parent volunteers come to school to share professional experience and career information with our students at Hollywood Hills. Career Day is a coordinated effort between our Faculty, PTA, our Hollywood Hills parents, and community partners. The goal is to provide our students with speakers who are excited about what they do and will help our students start to see all the wonderful possibilities that education creates for them. The PTA 's roll on Career Day is to welcome guest speakers and host a breakfast & lunch for the volunteers.

Classroom Tutors/Helpers work closely with a classroom teacher. The tutor helps the teacher with preparing bulletin boards, assist with group activities and enrichment activities, laminating and preparing learning aids, as well as reading aloud to the students. Tutors also work closely with non-English speaking students in academic subject areas as well as help students with special projects. Thus, easing the teachers workload. You may assist in all areas or areas in which you are most comfortable with. A minimum of one hour per week is required but any amont of time is beneficial and helpful for both the student and the Ttacher. *Volunteers may not assist in the same class as their children.

Connecting for Kids is a program that joins organizations in the community with the school in order to foster good community relationships, help children at the school, and facilitate joint involvement in community service projects. Partners of the school donate $250 each; the funds go into a special scholarship fund to help underprivileged children with such needs. These funds go towards purchasing and restocking school supplies, purchasing musical instruments or class shirts and field trip expenses that some families are unable to afford. It also ensures that every child can receive a hot lunch every day, if they forget their lunch, run out of money on their account, or for any reason, did not have lunch that day. In return, the school will spend one month with each partner during the school year on a community service project of their choice. You may dedicate one hour a week or longer. Any and all time is greatly appreciated.

The PTA is proud to support the arts at HHE. Through its Cultural Arts Committee, chaired by PTA member Lisa Kennedy, the PTA is able to bring educational and high quality, professional performances to our kids. The performances occur during school time and are presented on a quarterly basis. The money raised by the PTA through its fall fundraiser and other events are what subsidize the cost. The performers are all Sunshine-State approved. The committee tries to tie-in its shows with cultural events. Fundraising is the method of raising money to finance PTA programs and projects. The fundraising project must support the goals of the school and PTA. When planning the years activities, PTAs should use the 3-to-1 rule. For every one fundraising activity, there should be at least three non fundraising programs aimed at helping parents or children or advocating for school improvements.

Field days are annual events staged by PTA in which the children participate in various competitive sporting activities. They typically comprise activities such as: the 50 yard dash, 1/2 mile race, the tug of war, ball and spoon race and the animal relay race to name just a few. Each individual class competes as a team against other classes on the same grade level. Field days may be attended by parents and other relatives of the participating pupils. In most cases, parents will sit on the sidelines as spectators; some parents also volunteer to help at the days events. Field Days at HHE are held towards the end of the academic year. The chair person will work hand in hand with our P.E. coach to organize the fun activities and relays between the teams. PTA's goal is to promote good sportsmanship and teamwork to all the participants.

Every Valentines Day over 900 students, teachers, and family members will show that they “Love to be Healthy” by participating in the Annual Walk for Wellness at Hollywood Hills Elementary School This event aims to reinforce healthy habits in our students by taking a break from studies to get outdoors and walk. Students all wear a Walk for Wellness t-shirt which they are provided with free thanks to the generous support of community sponsors. The event also serves as fundraiser for the school PTA with 90% of proceeds going directly to support PTA sponsored events and programs. 10% is donated to a local children’s oriented charity. Last year, $600 was donated to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. Upon completing the walk, all participants are treated to an ice pop courtesy of the PTA, and a bottle of water generously donated by The City of Hollywood.

Students are encouraged to talk about how the paintings make them feel, which they prefer and why. Important facts about the artist are also discussed. Becoming a PTA member opens up leadership opportunities, and builds skills in communication and advocacy strategies. Members who are willing to get involved are a valuable resource for starting and maintaining programs and projects to benefit children, youth, and the community. Enrolling members in the PTA is a year-long activity that is carried out by a membership committee. The primary reason for developing membership in the PTA is to build an informed team of individuals to work on behalf of all children and youth. The committee plans, implements, and evaluates the membership campaign following the guidelines of the National PTA and Florida State PTA. Family Dinner Nights at local restaurants where a portion of the proceeds are donated to Hollywood Hills PTA . Some of the past restaurants were Longhorn Steak House, Sweet Tomatoes and Rocco's Pizza. Take a load off and not cook dinner that night or get together with other families from the school and have a fun evening out for everyone. Specific Restaurants will be announced with the date and location as they approach. So keep an eye out for those emails or handouts from school.

Classroom parties take place during the school day. They are usually one hour in length, and involve games, crafts, snacks, and favors. Each class has its own party, and all the activities should be age appropriate. The parents are the "hosts" of the party, although the teacher will always attend the party. The 3 big parties are Fall ( Halloween) Winter Holiday, End of year Celebration. Every teacher has different expectations. Some teachers will give you a party plan, laying out all the details for you to execute. Others will await the party as anxiously as the children to see what fun you have prepared for them! Flowers and/or cards, or email- depending on the nature of the situation—are sent on behalf of HHE PTA. Recipients appreciate the gesture and are reminded of the love their community has for them.
