Math Superstars

         What is Math SuperStars?

Math SuperStars - is a math enrichment program sponsored by Volunteer Services of Broward County and Our PTA. Participation in Math SuperStars has been shown to improve math skills and performance on tests.  Independent effort is the key to the Math SuperStars program.  The Math Superstars program is designed to encourage the development of problem solving skills and teach the importance of math in everyday life.

     How does the program work?

The Math Superstars program is a series of grade specific worksheets consisting of word problems. The duration of Math SuperStars for 1st through 5th grade is 20 weeks, and Kindergarten runs for 10 weeks. The teachers will handout the worksheets  each week. Students complete the problems  and return them to the teacher. A parent volunteer will check the worksheets and return  them to the class on the following Monday.

Math SuperStars incentives....

Participation in this program is highly encouraged and supported by our school improvement plan.  Our school feels strongly about the benefits of this program, therefore, we offer weekly incentives in the form of .25 school store tokens, as well as  possible invitations to the Math SuperStars final exam and ice cream party.

     How can you help?

The program depends on volunteers. The time required for each volunteer is about 15 to 20 minutes in each week to check and return  the worksheets. Volunteers make arrangements with the teacher to send the completed sheets home on Friday. Once the work is  checked the volunteer returns the sheets to the teacher on Monday.  That all the volunteers do- The teachers then gives all checked sheets to the program chair. Volunteers do not hand out incentives, The Program Chair person sends the weekly incentive to the child's class.
