                                           Goo- Blek

1 cup of corn starch
1/4 to 1/3 cup of water
bowl
Pour the corn starch into the bowl. Add the water on top.
Mix well until a thin mixture occurs. Let it sit until it gets solid.
Even though it appears to be solid, when you pick it up turns it to liquid!
Very easy clean - up. Simply wipe with a damp cloth.

                                        Kool Aid Finger Paint

2 cups flour
2 packs unsweetened Kool-aid
1/2 cup salt
3 cups boiling water
3T. oil

Mix the dry  ingredients in a bowl. Add the wet ingredients and stir. You are ready to paint!
The kids love the color change. Use Glossy finger paint paper
and spray a bit of water on the paper first, to make spreading easier.
TIP: Using primary colors will teach your little one color mixing science!

                                             Goop

1 cup of liquid starch
1 cup of Elmer's glue
A few drops of food coloring
Mix together until it forms a ball.  If it is sticky add a few drops of liquid starch.  It will first become very stringy until you have mixed it well.

You cook cornstarch and water to a thick consistency and add food coloring. We like blue for the ocean. Then we add seashell and starfish basically anything we can find that might be found in the ocean. The kids love this. You can make this in any color.

What a fun idea for a stay at the beach...spend the day collecting and then you can make the "goop".

toilet paper tubes or

crayons and/or markers

markers & stickers. Secure a piece of wax paper to one
end of the tube using a rubber band.

Something is a little "Fishy" Painted shirt
A real fish is used to make this beautiful shirt.
This sounds a bit strange but the effect is very cool!
You'll Need:
1 Fish- from the market or even a fishing trip. A plastic fish will do but won't have the detail.
Fabric paint of various colors
Paint roller
shirt
First, RINSE the fish & dry with a paper towel.
Then apply the fabric paint with as much creative flair
as you can muster using the roller and sponges to dab
small amounts of color. Press the fish paint side down onto
the shirt . Press gently. Lift the fish off of the shirt being careful not to smear the paint. When you lift you will see
the details of the fish including scales etc.
The more scales the better.
Let the paint dry according to the instructions on the bottle.
Wash the shirt before wearing it or you may lose some friends...he he.
Tip:
Fabric paint also comes in glitter colors. A bit of this added to the colors is very effective for looking like scales.
P.S. Please do not use live fish!

Flower Place Mats

Use your spring or summer garden blooms for this attractive  addition to a summer table.
You'll Need
Pressed flowers directions
Contact paper
Large sheets of construction paper
Press the flowers a week or so before hand. When they are ready,
begin cutting the contact paper to the desired size for your place mats.
You'll need two pieces for one mat. Cut the construction paper 1" smaller than the construction paper on all sides. Peel off the contact paper to expose the sticky side on one of the sheets. Lay your flowers onto the sticky side of the contact paper. You will not be able to reposition the flowers after they are on the contact paper,  plan your lay out on the
paper first. When you are done with the flowers lay your colored paper
onto the center of the mat. Try to leave even edges.
Then, peel the second piece of contact paper and lay
over the colored paper. Press and trim edges.

Sidewalk Chalk
Sidewalk chalk is not an expensive craft item, so making
your own is really about adding to the fun!

You'll Need:
Wax coated paper cups
2 Cups cold water
2 Cups plaster of Paris
2 TBS. powdered tempera paint
Using a bucket mix all of the ingredients together.
Pour into cups and let stand until semi firm. Peel off cup sides and let it dry completely. Ready to use in
1-2 hours.

**DO NOT DISCARD remaining plaster down any plumbing!
Scrape or pour it out into a box and throw it away.

Turn an ordinary neighborhood walk into an extraordinary adventure.
Pick a time when you have nice weather and a bit of time to spend.
As you and your child step out the front door, flip a coin.
If its tails turn left. If its heads turn right. Continue this at every corner. You never know where you'll end up! This is a great opportunity to giggle with your kids and enjoy some chatting.

Obstacle Course
A terrific form of exercise and play!
Super for summer parties and barbecues.

These obstacles are sure to delight you kids.
-Walking or hopping along a winding a garden hose.
-Crawling under lawn chairs.
-Balancing along a string.
-Walking with a ball between your knees.
-Add an oscillating sprinkler to any of the above!
Obstacle builders could be lawn furniture, a hose, string or rope, sprinkler, balls, water balloons, jump rope
Add movements like jumping, rolling etc. What fun!

Be Prepared

Fill a large laundry basket with a good playground ball, a jump rope, and roller skates, hula hoop and some side walk chalk. They'll be ready in a pinch!

Slide Test Drive
This simple activity keeps my son busy for
quite awhile and his friends like it too!
If you have a swing set with a slide in your back yard.
Place a bucket or dish pan at the bottom of the slide.
Have your child place a toy car at the top of the slide and see if it will roll into the bucket?
Ask him /her which cars were successful, which one failed and why they think that was the case.

Refrigerator Box House
No tree for a tree house?
Just go to your local appliance center and ask if they can spare a LARGE box. Let your children design there "fort" and you can cut the doors & windows with a utility knife.
Paint and decorate the outside using poster paints and sponges or brushes. Fabric scraps and a stapler can be used for curtains. If kept under cover this retreat will last all summer. Don't for get the "keep out" sign.

Tent Time
Kids love to play in their own tent space. You can do it without the hassle of pitching a tent.
Use a plastic tarp over the clothesline with stakes at the corners. Cover the floor with a blanket or sheet.
Provide a picnic lunch, board games and other activities for the little campers. Using this instead of a real tent will prevent damaging the lawn. Kids can use it all summer long for a relief from the sun.

Wacky Kids Croquet or Lawn Bowling
http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/summerplay_kids_croquet.htm
Leave the proper croquet games to your older relatives...
this game will keep your kids giggling all summer!

You'll need:
lawn care stakes or garden stakes
permanent markers in a variety of colors
croquet mallets and balls or lawn bowling balls

Using the permanent markers, write instructions on the stakes such as, "HOP", "SING", "DANCE", "CARTWHEEL", "YODEL" etc.

How To Play:
Place the stakes into the ground with plenty of distance in between stakes.
designate one stake for the start and one for the finish. Use lawn bowling, croquet, or other heavy balls to play. Each child will have their own ball. . The children will hit, or roll their balls from one stake to another, attempting to touch or get very near the stake in one roll. Only one roll per turn.
When they do get their ball near the stake, they will perform the task
on the instruction card.

Variation: you can also use the entire croquet set and placing the garden stakes near the wickets or wood stakes. Let your kids adapt the rules to see what imaginative new game they create.
